So, of late, I have been working on a fun little idea for an army made up of conscripts. Basically, it's an IG army, but with conscript platoons instead of infantry platoons as troop choices, and each conscript platoon has a mandatory commissar. There are a few other list changes, like no veteran squads and no storm troopers, but the biggest differences are the Human Wave rule and the way morale is handled in the Conscript platoon. The way it works is, you take all morale/pinning checks on LD6, but if you fail the test, the commissar executes a conscript and you must reroll the test. The second result stands. Then, there is the fun part about rallying broken conscript platoons. If a unit of rough riders moves in the movement phase, or any vehicle, the conscript platoon takes D6 casulties, and auto-rallies. It may also fleet that turn. The last major rule difference is the human wave rule- any platoon may fleet, but looses D3 conscripts as the commissar herds them forward with threats and bolter shells.

Bear in mind that this list is a just for fun kind of thing, because I find the concept of a human tide of consripts hilarious. If anyone asks, I can post the entire army list. Thoughts?

conscripts sound cool can u plz post the army list, btw would they have any tanks/sentinels/anything mechanical or is this one of the "youth armies of cadia" ?????????

The "Human Wave" is, in fact, my one and only strategy for playing with the IG anyway (and the Empire for that matter, gotta love Free Company)

Army list for Conscripts-

HQ-
Same as Codex IG

Troops-

The only choice in a conscript army is the conscript platoon. The only difference from codex IG is that each platoon has a mandatory commissar as a unit upgrade.

Elites

Ogryns are the only elites available to a conscript army.

Fast Attack
Same as Codex IG

Heavy Support
Same as Codex IG, but heavy weapon platoons may not be chosen.

CONSCRIPT ARMY SPECIAL RULES-

Human Wave!-
Any unit of conscripts may launch a Human Wave at the start of their turn. Remove D3 conscripts as the commissar spurs the men forward. The unit may now fleet.

Conscript Morale-
Conscripts led by a Commissar take leadership tests at +1.. If this test is failed, the commissar will execute a conscript and the test is rerolled. If this too is failed, the commissar may either execute D3 conscripts and count the unit as pinned, or will fall back with no further casualties.

Rallying Conscripts-
Any unit of conscripts that is falling back is either charged by a friendly unit of sentinels, rough riders or ogryns, or tank shocked by any friendly tank, will lose D6 conscripts and automatically rally.

Commissars-
Commissars in conscript armies act somewhat differently than normal commissars. They are independent characters that may not leave their conscript platoon. If the platoon is killed, the commissar may join new units. Also, commissars count as officers in all respects, including taking "officer only" items and the iron discipline doctrine. However, only the unit they are attached to may use a commissars leadership. The only leadership that can be transmitted by vox-caster is that of the command platoon.



Doctrines-
A Conscript army must take the following doctrines: Close Order Drill, Iron Discipline, Conscript Platoons.

Mad94- I originally had rules allowing hellhounds to fire into combat, but decided against it because it just seemed wrong. Then again, these are penal legion scum, so I guess its all good!

Gorkamorka- Your suggested list was identical to my suggested list.

Would anybody be willing to play against/as this army? Seriously? Ultimate power could be yours!

to add more fun to this codex, you should make it essential to take the warrior weapons doctrine too.

Well, if anyone goes to Springfield plaza GW, I could arrange a match. I already have the men for a 200 man conscript army. As for warrior weapons...I shudder at the thought of sixty WS2 S3 attacks. And god forbid you lose combat and take your test at -4 because of outnumbering...
