The rising cost of models

Postby Jim the cadian » Thu May 01, 2008 11:26 pm

Hey guys, just wondering why do the model prices keep getting more and more expensive over the years. First you could get the METAL models for a few pence or a pound, or in my US terms, some dimes and 2 bucks. But now the prices have exponentially risen from the olden times prices. I wonder what causes that?

Inflation, cost of exporting models to the US, cost of materials, rising demand, and plain ol' cash grabbing.

GWpainter, you are close. Polystyrene, or whatever they make the palstic models out of these days, is typically a petroleum byproduct. Ergo, the price of oil blasts through the roof, the price of plastic goes up also.

Plus the cost to get it to the stores, etc.

Soon GW retailers will have one of those interchangeable plastic-number gas-station price signs outside of their shops so they can adjust prices by the minute according to the cost of a barrel of crude oil.

We're old enough to complain about this, yet young enough to keep buying the stuff.

GW knows this.

There is no reason to pay GW's full retail price. Buy used, ebay is a great way to save. I've purchased 2 army's dirt cheap from ebay. You just have to be patient and watch. Then there are good retailers that give discounts. check the main TSOALR for links. Warstore has been very good to me.
